In the wake of a national pandemic, business leaders in Surprise, El Mirage and Youngtown are spreading a message of kindness. A new public education campaign launched today by the three cities and the Surprise Regional Chamber of Commerce encourages every person to “Spread Kindness Instead” as they are out and about patronizing local merchants.
The aim of the program is simply to motivate our community to be kind to one another and have patience during this time of finding a “new normal.” The core of workforce development is a people-first approach to doing business, and this campaign serves as a gentle reminder to value one another. Together, our collective action drives our impact in building a kinder community. Now that businesses are reopening, the campaign adds that businesses in El Mirage, Surprise and Youngtown are “Open, Safe, and Kind.”
Local business owners and managers in the Northwest Valley interested in joining in the initiative will be provided promotional materials like banners and posters to display in their stores and offices.
The Be Kind initiative is a collaborative effort among the cities and towns of El Mirage, Surprise and Youngtown in partnership with the Surprise Regional Chamber of Commerce. The roundtable group is comprised of Youngtown Town Manager Jeanne Blackman, El Mirage Economic Development Manager, Tom Doyle, Surprise Economic Development Director Jeanine Jerkovic and President/CEO of the Surprise Regional Chamber of Commerce Raoul Sada.
A statement released by the group described the campaign’s intent. "We hope this multi-city campaign will be the first of many projects around which the Northwest Valley business community can unite. Many businesses have had to implement drastic changes to their operations, and some are just now reopening. Our message of kindness, openness and safety encourages us all to have patience and support our business community as we work together as residents, visitors and employees to restart our economy.”
A limited number of printed materials for the Be Kind campaign are being provided by all three cities, and digital copies are available on the Surprise Regional Chamber of Commerce website. The materials are free to any business in the Northwest Valley.
